This American Gold Coin from 1865 S Double Eagle was minted in San Francisco. It is designed by James Barton Longacre. In the diameter of 34 millimeters and composed of metal content 90 percent of gold and 10 percent of copper or silver. It is weight of 516 grains (33 grams). Its mint mark was “S” that stands for San Francisco below the eagle’s tail on the reverse. The finest of this 1865 S Double Eagle are MS- 66’s.
